Seized Mennonite Children Home Soon

Some old-order Mennonite children will be back with parents within weeks: lawyer
By: The Canadian Press

WINNIPEG – About half of the 40 children seized from an old-order Mennonite community in Manitoba could be back with their parents by the end of the month, a lawyer for some of the families said Friday.
The children were taken by social workers in June after 13 people in the orthodox community were charged with child abuse — including alleged assaults using cattle prods, whips and leather straps.
Five couples, who have a total of 19 children, were in a court hearing Friday that was closed to the media. Afterward, their lawyer Paul Walsh said Child and Family Services has agreed to a timeline that will see all of his clients’ children returned by Nov. 1.

Mennonites and Muslims Meet

The term interfaith dialogue refers to cooperative, constructive and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions (i.e., “faiths”) and/or spiritual or humanistic beliefs, at both the individual and institutional levels. It is distinct from syncretism or alternative religion, in that dialogue often involves promoting understanding between different religions to increase acceptance of others, rather than to synthesize new beliefs.[1]

One of the directors of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio in San Francisco is Don Frew[2]. He has represented Wicca since 1985 and is a National Interfaith Representative from Covenant of the Goddess. He wrote that…

“Interfaith work is, in my opinion, the best hope for the future of the Earth. Neopagans, especially many from the Covenant of the Goddess, are active at the heart of the global interfaith movement. This is our opportunity to be part of the change we wish to see.” (Frew, 2003)
-Don Frew, PAGAN INVOLVEMENT IN THE INTERFAITH MOVEMENT [3]

One of the interfaith dialogues we are seeing more of is the dialogue between Christians and Muslims. The following is only one recent example of how the Mennonites are catching the interfaith wave….

Mennonites, Muslims meet in Abraham Project
Lancaster churches and mosque work to strengthen relationships

Mennonites and Muslims gathered around food and film at The Abraham Project Sept. 6-8 in Lancaster, Pa., in the hopes of deepening interfaith relationships.

Mennonites representing a handful of churches and Muslims from the Islamic Center of Lancaster screened a documentary about peace in the evening Sept. 6 at James Street Mennonite Church, then observed Saturday prayer times at the mosque and shared a meal.

Is this the commission that Jesus Christ has given to His church?

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1 Cor. 1:17-19

Mennonites, UN and Mother Earth

Do you know that Action for Peace through Prayer and Aid is affiliated with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)? The APPA (appaun.org) acknowledges several activities on the United Nations calendar, including UN International Mother Earth Day, and supports the United Nations’s 2015 Millennium Development Goals.

In his detailed report, Carl Teichrib of Forcing Change warns that MCC’s involvement with the UN brings it in line with plans to create a one world government. MCC’s resources have included a prayer to Mother Earth* in the Earth Trek devotional materials and a statement that Jews, Muslims and Christians all worship the same God. You can read Carl Teichrib’s research on the MCC by getting a hold of this (membership required):
