Mennonites and Muslims Meet

The term interfaith dialogue refers to cooperative, constructive and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions (i.e., “faiths”) and/or spiritual or humanistic beliefs, at both the individual and institutional levels. It is distinct from syncretism or alternative religion, in that dialogue often involves promoting understanding between different religions to increase acceptance of others, rather than to synthesize new beliefs.[1]

One of the directors of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio in San Francisco is Don Frew[2]. He has represented Wicca since 1985 and is a National Interfaith Representative from Covenant of the Goddess. He wrote that…

“Interfaith work is, in my opinion, the best hope for the future of the Earth. Neopagans, especially many from the Covenant of the Goddess, are active at the heart of the global interfaith movement. This is our opportunity to be part of the change we wish to see.” (Frew, 2003)

One of the interfaith dialogues we are seeing more of is the dialogue between Christians and Muslims. The following is only one recent example of how the Mennonites are catching the interfaith wave….

Is this the commission that Jesus Christ has given to His church?

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1 Cor. 1:17-19
