The recent Mennonite involvement with anti-Israel movements has not gone unnoticed. Some of these include the BDS campaigns, the Israel Apartheid movement and Christ at the Checkpoint. The Mennonites are not the only Christians to come alongs side the various anti-Israel events and organizations. For those who don’t know what this is all about, here is a bit of background information. Before explaining the Mennonite ties to this movement, it is essential to examine the following questions:
What does BDS mean?
* BDS (boycotts, divestment and sanctions) have been used to target Israel for decades by pro-Palestinian groups.
Boycotts of products, culture, and academics – BDS activists lobby stores not to carry Israeli products and encourage others not to purchase them. They send letters to artists, musicians, authors, and academics, imploring them not to perform and appear in Israel or cooperate with Israeli institutions. Boycotts undermine liberal values, such as academic freedom and freedom of expression, by restricting openness and tolerance. They represent the immoral collective punishment of Israelis and those who associate with them.
Divestment from companies that do business with Israel – Distorting the concept of ethical investing, NGOs accuse companies that conduct business in Israel of involvement in war crimes and violations of international law. The NGOs approach investors, primarily large banks and pension funds, and push for the exclusion of these companies. When Israeli corporations were removed from funds devoted to developing countries, due to Israel’s stable and advanced economy, divestment proponents falsely proclaimed victory.
Sanctions against self-defense measures – Anti-Israel activists demand that the international community enact comprehensive sanctions against Israel – treating Israel as a pariah state. The ultimate goal is legally enforced sanctions by the UN Security Council. Other forms of sanctions include arms embargoes, which are premised on baseless charges of war crimes. Similarly, legal proceedings are initiated against Israeli officials to punish Israel for defensive actions.

Is the BDS campaign and Israel Apartheid Week about peace?
* If the goal of the Israel Apartheid movement and BDS campaign is peace, why is the truth is twisted in order to achieve these goals? Why are false comparisons made of Israel to genocide and apartheid South Africa?
“The international Israel Apartheid Week and its accompanying BDS campaign is far from being a peaceful grass roots movement to bring “justice, equality and peace to Palestine.” Rather, it is largely a Muslim Brotherhood- and Hamas-fueled network that supports the same radical Islamic agenda of destroying Israel. NGOs involved in Israeli Apartheid Week and BDS should be placed under the legal and media spotlights for direct and indirect ties to and support for hybrid Islamic terror groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah that use BDS as a soft terror strategy to complement their “hard” terror campaigns.”

What are BDS events about and what are NGOs?
* As expected, there have been all kinds of BDS lectures and discussions happening on university campuses in the U.S. and Canada to promote the international Israel Apartheid Week and BDS campaign. Why are there so many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) behind these events involving themselves in Israel’s policies?
BDS LIE WEEK
Lena Abayev Bakman
February 24, 2014
Dozens of events will take place worldwide this week as part of the 10th annual “Israeli Apartheid Week.” These events include lectures and panel discussions on academic campuses in the West, with the stated goal being “to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies toward the Palestinians and to build support for the growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign.”
In short: to expand the political war against Israel.
This is not a few individuals getting together. Nongovernmental organizations that claim to stand for human rights but that actually support the demonization of Israel are active in it. Some are even funded by European governments.
The week might only take place once a year, but it is not an isolated event. It is just one example of the Durban strategy-based BDS campaign against Israel, which is on 52 weeks a year, every year.
The week is based on lies, twisted historicism, and deception.
It is time to acknowledge that an international PR campaign is being waged against Israel, one that is based on words, slogans, and mainly on lies. It is time to start an opposition campaign, called “BDS Movement Lie Week.”
Isn’t this just about peace and ending the ‘occupation’?
* The BDS campaign is often framed as such by biased media reports, but some are fighting back with the truth.
“We are trying to inform people about the real goals of BDS – that it’s not about “ending the occupation,” as some media claim. It is about ending Israel as a Jewish State.” -Alex Margolin, social media editor for HonestReporting (www.honestreporting.com)

In fact, the BDS movement appears to be a chilling reminder that if the world goes along with this lie, history will repeat itself.
“While not many are willing to admit it, the modern Boycott, Divestment and Sanction movement (BDS) started in 2005, could very possibly lead to what took place during AND after Kristallnacht. I have written several times about the hypocrisy of the Boycott on Israeli products and corporations, while many of the other products that the very boycotters are using are either manufactured or invented in Israel. This hasn’t changed, but what concerns me even more now is the real motive behind the support for BDS.
As erroneous as they might have been up to now, supporters of BDS are starting to show their true colors. The reason why I say that they are mistaken at the core of their fight is because they choose to boycott Israeli products based on the false premise that Israel is guilty of apartheid, occupation and even crimes against humanity. So in the name of social justice and world peace, Israel must be stopped! Of course if it can be proven that Israel is as guilty as South Africa was a few decades ago, then the logical next step will be to sanction them, and the world is going along with that lie. Yet, the correlation between the two is purely fabricated by Jew haters.”

The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs proposes that the heart of this campaign is the elimination of Israel. (Read: What is the Real BDS Endgame? The Elimination of Israel http://jcpa.org/article/what-is-the-real-bds-endgame/)
Even so, these anti-Israel campaigns have been coming to our cities and campuses. Only a brave minority dare to speak out publicly and make a difference, like Ben Shapiro and Jessica Marzucco…

Jessica Marzucco Speaks Out:
The most alarming part about this anti-Israel movement is that these campaigns are being supported by Christian organizations who have allowed a left-wing push into their institutions. Regardless of motives, such Christian groups are either mis-led or apostate, as they join the ranks of Stephen Sizer, Gary Burge, Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo, all supporters of, if not participants in, Christ at the Checkpoint. The next blog on Menno-lite will show how deeply the Mennonites appear to be involved in these anti-Israel movements.
